C-Mount on The Hills
June 2007 - Santa Monica, CA
Top rated reality show, MTV's The Hills came to C-Mount Industries to solve two problems. First, the very cinematically styled show has been shooting for the last two years in the letterboxed 16:9 aspect ratio, but the wireless video monitoring system they have been using was only 4:3. C-Mount has provided the director and producers of the show a specially modified Camos 7" 16:9 monitor to watch the feed from there existing Starlink wireless system. Secondly, Hill's Technical Supervisor Edgar Martin was frustrated with the old cargo van MTV had rented for him to use as his Tech/Camera/Grip truck. The old style cargo van, had a low ceiling that made loading very difficult and his c-stands had took up all the room on the floor. C-Mount, partnering with Edgar, has purchased a new Dodge Sprinter 3500 for MTV. The 6-wheeled, Mercedes built truck is still smaller than a cube truck, but tall enough for the 6 foot tech supervisor to stand up in. The diesel engine gets excellent gas mileage and the 6 wheels provide for a smooth ride.
